Michael Collins Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy is a Nigerian businessman, producer, artist and founder of one of the most notable record labels in Africa today called Mavin Records.
Don Jazzy came to the limelight after the release of the album “No Long Thing” which he produced for D’banj which he also featured on. The album was released under Mo’Hits Records, a music label founded by both Don Jazzy and D’banj.
Don Jazzy is one that would be called a visionary in the Nigerian music scene as he helped change the way music business is run. His branding was unique for himself, his artists and record label as was his music. His attention to detail and push for excellence is what helped take him to the top of the scene.
One of Don Jazzy’s great attributes is his ferocious drive to get things done. He brakes his artists within the shortest possible time. This is a drive found in most successful leaders. The success of his record company is a testament to that.
Don Jazzy’s history did not begin in the limelight or in a fancy studio or any recording studio at all. He began by learning the rudimentary skills of playing musical instruments, a foundation that would give him the musical base and authority to create chart breaking hits that transcend the shores of Nigeria, and Africa.
These skills were the ones that afforded him the opportunity to leave the shores of Nigeria when the opportunity arose. He was asked to come play the drums for a local church in London.
Don Jazzy plays at least three musical instruments, a term call “multi instrumentalist”.
In March of 2012 Mo’Hit Records broke up barely a year after hitting a huge milestone with the signing of D’banj to as an artist and Don Jazzy as a producer to Kanye West’s record label “Good Music”. The news was announced by Don Jazzy on his twitter page. Don Jazzy had given part of his life and a huge amount of effort into making that company the success it had gotten. What he did after that was both bold and courageous. He went ahead to start a new company.
This showed another great trait of Don Jazzy found in great leaders, the ability to bounce back after a major set back as Don Jazzy Started his new and present record company Mavin Records just 2 months after.
